Roman Blinds General information

All of our roman blinds are hand made in house by our highly skilled team of staff.

We do not use the cheap 'wood and hook' draw method instead our deluxe barrel system is housed in a tough, hard wearing aluminium heading that is controlled by a chain drive that ensures that the blind can be drawn and adjusted with smooth precision along its height. Your choice of fabric is attached with velcro to the headbox and has a sewn in weight at the bottom to ensure that the fabric retains the sharp, flat appearance throughout it's length.

Technically it is possible to produce a unit up to 3 metres (9' 10") in width however we would stress to Customers that this would not be entirely recommended. Unlike other types of blinds the roman is restricted in manufacture by its reliance on curtain fabric and as such the inherent limitation of curtain piece nominal width of 42" means that materials need to be joined for windows that exceed this width. Although this is easily achieved it does mean that the visual problem of a join on view and the bulky, collective effect that the fabric has when the blind is drawn tends to become a little unsightly. Certainly we would not advise any more than one join so about 2 metres is the aesthetically acceptable recommendation.

If you look at the images around the web and in print you will note that the majority of roman blind instances are of narrow width but long in drop windows, typically sash windows, this is due to the 'joining' situation as previously ascertained on one hand and the fact that when drawn the stacking depth of a roman is quite deep. Enough to obscure the standard top opening window and even reduce the amount of light entering a room especially when blackout lining has been used. So please bear this in mind when choosing the type of blind that is suitable for your particular application.

We ask that measurements are taken in millimetres and on a recess basis, this allows the tightest fit possible allowing for the relative tolerance adjustment that we automatically factor at the time of production. The physical width of the roman fabric will always be 10mm less overall than the measurement width size provided. If you require an outside recess application or specificallyy need the fabric coverage to be accounted for then please ensure that you add the above tolerance to your resulting measurment as a minimum amount, and more importantly that you have the additional room required for fitting the blind.

When it comes to child safety and roman blinds we incorporate a break away connector on our chain driven units as standard, further precaution is available and recommended by using a chain cleat which is available on request at no extra charge.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions that you may have regarding roman blinds before you commit yourself to purchase.
